Getting started, or in this case, waking up is the hardest part. Or so some say. Some people are just not morning people, while others can wake up before their alarm even goes off.
Larks and owls, morning people and night people, have existed since the beginning of time. And there have been plenty of studies on the characteristics, or lifestyles that come with the two types. Now, whether you’re a lark trying to avoid a hectic morning, or an owl looking for a couple extra minutes of sleep, both birds—er, people—can benefit from these 4 simple shortcuts for a morning of smooth sailing.
Plan Your Outfit
Plan out what you’re going to wear for the next day the night before. This will save you from waking up the morning of and panicking, not knowing what will work with the weather, or what you have going on that day. Before hitting the hay, take a minute to look up the next day’s weather and think about what you have going on at work (content marketing strategy meeting? Blazer it is!). Then, choose your outfit accordingly and lay it out. The next morning you will look as put together as ever.
Prepare the Coffee
Some people think they don’t have time to make coffee in the morning, but they apparently have time to wait in line at the nearest coffee shop on the way to work… If you have a favorite coffee shop and enjoy doing that – please continue to do so. If you’re looking to save some time, not to mention a few bucks, then here’s how to have your coffee ready when you are.If you use a coffee pot, fill it with water the night before—put in your coffee grounds, and lay out your mug. When you wake up the next morning, push the on button and let your coffee brew while you’re getting ready. Your coffee will be waiting for you when you’re ready. Pour it and go. If you use a Keurig, make sure it’s filled with water and lay out your K-Cup and mug, and if you use a French press, be sure what you boil the water in is filled, and the rest is laid out. Voila! Fast and easy coffee, every morning.
Have Go-To Breakfast Recipes
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, or so we’ve been told. If nothing else, I think it’s safe to say one might get more work done if their stomach isn’t making noises all morning. Having a go-to breakfast menu for your mornings will make things so, so much easier. And again, going along with the preparing the night before theme, you can prep for breakfast the night before and do something along the lines of Overnight Oats. Here’s a list of 31 healthy breakfast recipes that can be made in 10 minutes or less. A good breakfast can make anyone more of a morning person.
Get Moving With Exercise
There are plenty of benefits to getting moving in the morning. Don’t let out a big sigh yet though. You don’t have to run a marathon to reap the benefits of getting up and moving. Just taking the time to stretch as you’re getting out of bed, or doing jumping jacks for a couple minutes will make a huge difference. Spend a little time on Google and you’ll find lots of suggestions for simple morning exercises. A little movement in the morning will put you on a much better path for the rest of the day.
If you didn’t quite pick up on the theme by now, a successful morning starts with preparation! Just as a good marketing strategy makes for part of a successful campaign, a good morning routine makes for part of a successful day. At the time, you might not feel like preparing, but after experiencing the benefits, you won’t have to think twice. Here’s to a future of good mornings!
